Interfaith training was conducted this year on the theme of “Family Reconciliation and the Do No Harm Tool”. The family reconciliation was conducted on the 4th of March and the application training was held on the 5 to 7 March 2018 at ACT office in Phnom Penh. Total 20 participants (8 Women) attended the training including 4 staffs ACT and 16 members of interfaith group from four different provinces such as Kratie, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang and Kampot province. The participants are diverse, from Buddhism, Muslim and Christian and also from Department of Religion and Cult. The training was object to participants understand on family reconciliation and how they able to understand the DNH concept to apply in their work and life.
Welcoming for the participants by Ms. Sotheavy, the Executive Director of ACT by introduce the way ACT integrate the family reconciliation and DNH to the participants for this year. The first day of the training was introduce to the family relation and the conflict analysis in family and the way to avoid the conflict to reconcile it. In the second day was introduce of DNH concept, history, step of DNH, understand the context, and analyses on the divider and connector. The third day were reflection and leading to criteria of the divider and connector; with move to step four the unpack project and five steep on resources transfer and implicit ethical message. On the fourth day was step six and seven that generate option and testing option of the current project of interfaith; by other orientation on the stories of change writing for the team to write it back of the result from what they had been done for the year end and planning for the future interfaith network conduct their activities in the future. At this last day of training as it close to the 8th March the International Day of Women, ACT also create space for flower hand for ladies to have each flower and they impressive with this event as they never been received any rose, interfaith men gave flower to the lady and committed to engage respect women.
Pre-Test and post-test of the training were provided to them and at the end of the workshop, project found they improve a lot till 90% of participant understands the family reconciliation and the DNH tool on connector analysis. Through the observation the majority of the participant could descript the definition of DNH and could explain the seven step of DNH. One female participant said that DNH’s approach serves the purpose of adapting measures of assistance in order to increase chances for peace and decrease the chances for tension and hate each other. Most of them realized that DNH tool can be helping them to reduce tension and increase harmonise in the communities when they implement their project/activities.
According to reflection, most participants could explain what divider is and connector is, by saying that Connectors and Dividers analysis of case study help them to define the complex conflict as resulted of project implantation, that it is importance and never thought about it. A monk as one of training participants expressed that, DNH tool can used as a research methodology to understand conflict factors. About 50% of participants expressed that working on analysis of divider and connector criteria was very hard, but it is helpful to group all factors into each criteria. This show as evident that majority of participants enable practice quickly in identifying the criteria of each factors related to divider and connector. Through daily reflection and pre and post-test, demonstrated that participants gained understanding on unpack the project, they enable to analysis of the assistance program by using common questions to ask and consider alongside possible sources of division and tension. Majority of the participants active participate in discussion of resource transfer and they expressed that it reflected in the reality that it impacted the by any project bring to the community and pushed the conflict to violence.
Participants thanks to trainers and donor who provide them chance for this training as they able to learn new thing and improve their work and self-effectiveness, have fun and enjoy in the project. Ms. Lun Ny said, thanks for trainers and ACT allow me to join the training. This training is different from other training which I learn lot of divider and connector. Mr. Sary said that help me to get understand The Do No Harm framework is an approach that is highly compatible with community-based participatory processes and may in fact help strengthen local capacities for peace, in the process of using it. Mrs. Sang Siem appreciated the DNH tool. She demonstrated great deal of commitment to apply divider and connector anal when she works to address domestic violence. Participants like this training as I have new tool and I learn new thing. I commit to apply this tool in my daily work as my project support the communities where lot of conflict existed. They also suggest to donors to support more to ACT so that they able to have such important training and conduct more effective interfaith work wider in their communities.
